With tall towers or spires, church buildings
appear to be ideal for mobile communications base
stations. However, there are several other factors
that need to be evaluated before a given church
can be deemed suitable:
an aerial on the church must provide
the local coverage that the operators actually
need
a suitable location is needed to site aerials
in or on the building to give the required line
of sight coverage
there needs to be room to house the supporting
electronic equipment reasonably close to the aerials
the designs for the installation must be
sympathetic to the environment of the church building
and meet the requirement of the authorities
an electricity supply is needed to run
the equipment
a connection to the operators' national
networks will need to be installed
health and safety is of paramount importance:
radio emission levels must be within international
guidelines
Whilst technical solutions can be found in most
cases, we may not be able to proceed with an installation
if the cost of implementation becomes prohibitive.
