Mobile phone wireless links operate over quite
limited distances. Each phone has to connect to
a local communications base station which in turn
is connected to a national communications network.
Mobile phone operators require an increasing
number of base stations to ensure good service
to mobile phones across the country. These base
stations can be built on towers or poles or on
building roof tops. You will also find tiny base
stations inside shopping centres. The challenge
facing the operators is to find enough sites for
all their base station requirements.
Operators are seeking extra sites to complete their current generation
GSM (2G) networks, and are identifing sites for
their new UMTS (3G) service. Over the next five
years operators will be seeking more sites to
enhance their 3G capacity.
There are also emergency services and wireless
broadband networks being rolled out, and QS4 can
ensure that the churches are represented to these
organisations as well.
This means that there is an immediate demand
for certain church sites to augment the current
networks, and others will be required in the future
as the demand for sites increases.
